A work in Progress...

The Kitchen Feels Good

A little peek into my real-food kitchen on an ordinary, happy afternoon.

Want to know a secret? If you’re craving junk food at my house, don’t come to me — talk to my husband. He’ll happily swing by Good Earth on his way home from work and pick some up for you. :)

But here’s what’s actually within arm’s reach right now, if you wander through my kitchen:

A bowl of fruit sits on the table, and there are seeds and nuts in a dish on the counter. Larabars in the fridge. A veggie tray just went back in, all but demolished — the kids nearly finished it before I could blink. (The Dagoba chocolate? Gone. Every last square. I have my suspicions about the culprit.)

In the freezer there’s frozen fruit and almond milk and a smoothie blend, ready the moment someone wants one. On the counter, greens and lemons are waiting to become a green drink. And a batch of seeds is quietly soaking in salted water, getting ready to spend tomorrow in the dehydrator. We polished off the last of the cantaloupe, strawberries, and apples this morning — not a bite left.

And the smells… oh, the smells. White beans are murmuring away on the stove for tonight’s supper. The whole room is warm with cooked brown rice, and bright fresh dill from the veggie dip, and a pot of soup slowly coming together.

It smells like a home that’s being fed well.

(My one small prayer for the evening: that my husband makes it through the door without a box of gluten-free cereal from Good Earth. Fingers crossed!)

The kitchen feels good today. It’s still a work in progress — I’m forever tinkering, forever learning — but I’m getting there. And honestly? That’s more than enough.

“Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.” - Proverbs 15:17

With much love,

Steffanie
