Homemade Energy Drinks

The below recipes may seem extreme but  they were my attempts at coming up with a 'healthier' energy drink option for a good friend of mine that works out professionally for 6-8 hours a day and needs a TON of liquid calories.  Due to recent requests, I decided to put this post back up.  The recipes are not perfect - still tweaking them.  If you come up with a healthy energy drink recipe (that tastes good :) I'd love to hear about it.

Here are the recipes / recommendations...

Homemade Energy Drink Recipe:

Mix all the following ingredients together:

1/3 Cup Lemon Juice
1/4 Cup RAW Enzyme Rich Honey*
6 Cups of Spring Water (48oz)
1/4 Teaspoon Sea Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Bob’s Red Mill Aluminum Free Baking Soda *
1 Tbsp. of Blackstrap Molasses
4 Cups of Fruit Juice (Cranberry or Grape Juice or Fruit Juice Mix)(32oz)
3-5 Drops of Metabolic Essential Oil blend of Grapefruit, Lemon, Peppermint, Ginger and Cinnamon.

Recipe (Quadrupled) – If you are EXTREME with CARDIO and EXTREME with your DURATION and you need more CALORIES during the day, use this recipe...

1 1/3 cup of Lemon Juice – 65 Calories
1 cup of Raw Enzyme Rich Honey – 960 Calories
24 Cups (192oz) of spring water – Zero Calories
1 Tsp. of Sea Salt – Zero Calories
1 Tsp. of Aluminum Free Bob’s Red Mill Baking Soda – Zero Calories
4 Tbsps. of Molasses – 240 Calories
8 Cups (64oz) of Cranberry / Grape Juice Blend or other Fruit Juice Blend - 1120 Calories
10-12 Drops of the Metabolic Essential oil Blend* (A blend of Grapefruit, Lemon, Peppermint, Ginger and Cinnamon)

Total Calories = 2385

Other Options...

Coconut Water: When running marathons and triathlons, a friend of mine ditches the sugary, carbonated drinks her friends drink and she buys a case of coconut water at Costco. She says she has better endurance and strength than those she runs with and tries to encourage other she runs with to also use coconut water to hydrate their bodies. http://www.livestrong.com/article/118605-fresh-coconut-water-nutritional/

Green Drink : We love Ormus Greens from Sun Warrior. Years ago, my husband used Red Bull Energy drinks to stay awake when traveling long hours. He switched to herbal alternatives which worked really well but the thing he likes the best is Ormus Greens. Just a tsp. of the green powder added to water gives a great boost of energy. You could add the green powder to the recipe above or omit the lemon juice and add the greens. Anytime you can juice greens and drink them, you reap the benefits from freshly juiced herbs and leafy greens but if you don't have the time or you are on the road traveling, Ormus Greens is fabulous!

Spirulina Powder: A great protein source. Adding this to the drink could make the ratio for carbs and protein greater than a 0:4 ratio depending on the amount of spirulina you add to your drink.

Aloe Vera Juice: So many health benefits. I LOVE aloe vera juice! It protects and nourishes the body inside and out. Add a couple tbsps., or a cup of it – depending on your preference.  Purity is important.

Herbal Teas instead of lemon juice: Boil 32oz of water, remove from heat and add 1 cup of spearmint tea leaves (refreshing), or peppermint tea leaves (invigorating).

Fruit Juice : Try Grapefruit juice, grape juice, pureed strawberry juice, pureed pineapple juice, pureed mango juice, pureed raspberries, etc. as juice in place of lemon juice. Add a drop of  peppermint oil to make it even more refreshing and ‘cool’ to the taste during the hot summer days.

Raw Milk from Pasture Fed Cows: Raw milk can be a complete food.  Put some molasses with it and you have a great remedy for those fast food cravings. Use INSTEAD of the above recipe.

Almond Milk or Rice Milk: See recipes below. Almond Milk – 7 Calories per Almond = 60 calories per 8 oz. / Rice Milk – 120 Cal per cup.  Many Recipes are available online. Use the rice milk or almond milk to get your calories and add some cacao powder, carob powder or lucuma to give it a chocolate milk taste.  Still sweeten with honey (for more calories) and molasses.  Add cinnamon or nutmeg or try giving it a real kick with cayenne pepper.

Rejuvelac (probiotic drink):

· 2 cups sprouted organic soft spring wheat berries
· filtered water
· cheesecloth (or a sprouting screen)
· half gallon jar (or two quart size jars)

This tonic was popularized by Ann Wigmore, the first of American practical nutritionists to recognize the importance of enzymes and lacto-fermented food in the diet. Rejuvelac should be yellowish, cloudy and tart, without being too sour, and slightly carbonated.

Place wheat berries in a 2-quart glass jar. Fill with water and cover top with cheesecloth held in place by a rubber band. Soak at room temperature for 8 to 10 hours. Drain through the cheesecloth, rinse and drain again. Place jar at an angle and leave for 2 days, rinsing two to three times per day, while the berries begin to sprout. After 2 days, rinse thoroughly and fill jar with water. Soak 48 hours. Pour off the rejuvelac and store in a glass container in the refrigerator. A layer of white foam may form at the top, which should be gently lifted off with a spoon.

A second batch may be made by filling the jar and soaking for 24 hours; and a third batch, by filling again and soaking another 24 hours. After that the berries will be spent and may be put outside for the birds.

Use the Rejuvelac in place of the filtered water to have an amazing probiotic rich energy drink.

So next time you head out for a long distance run or need liquid energy because of a long drive ahead, you may want to consider preping one of the above suggestions.

In closing, here are some articles I found that talked about the energy drinks commonly used...

According to the National Honey Board, there are 64 calories per tablespoon of natural honey.
The nutritional values are as follows per tablespoon, according to the National Honey Board:
Water: 3.6 g /Total Carbohydrates 17.3 g / Fructose: 8.1 g / Glucose: 6.5 g / Maltose: 1.5 g

According to the honey board, honey contains some acids (amino and organic) along with antioxidant enzymes and vitamin C.

Honey also contains very small amounts of the minerals calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, selenium, copper, chromium and manganese

* Baking Soda (Bicarbonate of Soda) http://www.alternativehealthzone.com/nutrition-tips/health-benefits-of-baking-soda

When it comes to nutrition, molasses is one of the healthiest ways to sweeten food while also providing things like calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium to name a few. Based on the type of molasses you have and/or use, this will determine the nutrition value of the molasses. This is all based on whether the molasses comes from the first, second or third boiling of the molasses. We love Blackstrap Molasses.

Depending on the number of times it is boiled, the color of the molasses will vary. Blackstrap molasses can provide 20% of the daily value of iron, potassium, magnesium and calcium when 1 tablespoon is eaten.

Most of the calories that come from molasses are carbohydrates.

*The Metabolic Blend is a proprietary formula that includes a blend of grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger, and cinnamon essential oils. Just add 8 drops to 16 oz. of water (regular size bottle of water, use glass or stainless steel container) and drink between your healthy meals throughout the day to help manage hunger, calm your stomach, and lift your mood. The blend also makes a delicious and healthy flavored water for proper hydration during exercise or other activity. It has zero calories and is an excellent replacement for high-calorie beverages or for drinks that contain artificial sweeteners and colors.

Pasteur versus Bechamp

Louis Pasterur claims invention of the "Germ Theory".  He is accused by biographers of stealing - and misinterpreting - his rival, Antoine Bechamp's research.

Pasteur, who is friends with the emperor, succeeds, and Bechamp's research is left to future historians and healers to rediscover.

Different types of Damnation

Damnation means to be stopped, blocked, or limited in one's progress. I believe people are damned whenever they are prevented from reaching their full potential as children of God.

Prior to writing this post, I had called  a relative to see how she was doing.  After a brief hello she said her husband wanted to talk to me and so she handed the phone to him.  I wasn't happy about this.  I'm frustrated that he is in the hospital - again!

I asked coldly "how are you doing?" He responded "I'm half way there".  I didn't know what he meant by that.  "Half-way dead?"  I asked.  No, he was half way through his hospital stay.  Three more weeks to go.

"Some people choose to live in jail, some people choose to live in hospitals" I told him.  I asked him "when are you going to give up your drugs?!?!" (This is a very strong minded Italian I was talking to.  I wasn't sure how he was going to respond to my stern talking).

Fortunately for my relative and I, the conversation ended well and I was surprised with his honesty and lack of pride - despite my harsh comments.  During our phone conversation, he talked about the first time he was admitted to the hospital, (when he was young).  During his first experience in a hospital he was put on morphine.  He said it was amazing how good it felt to be transported to "another place - to feel so relaxed and pain free".  He then said how he was able to get off of the morphine and avoided it - not becoming addicted, but when he tasted a "crunchy taquito" for the first time, he had that same experience occur in his body similar to what had occurred when he took morphine.  He felt that "high" from the chemical laden fast food and that moment was the beginning of a fast food addiction that would turn this good looking "stud" (his own words) into a humble, very overweight man - extremely addicted to fast food.

When the nurse came in to care for the man mentioned earlier (let's call him Fred), he said that he joked with her saying "I'm sure you haven't noticed, but I'm actually a little overweight".  Despite the care he is receivig from the nice people there, and despite the humor, I hope this last experience in the hospital jolted his eyes and spirit open wide.  When he was checked into the hospital my relative called to inform me they would be amputating "Fred's Foot".

Damnation.  I asked "Fred" when he was going to stop living in the hospital.  When was he going to give up his "drugs".  (No I am not usually this bold with him nor am I this bold with my clients).  I am angry for the following reasons...

His wife knows how to cook incredibly nutritious food - her husband won't eat it.
His wife wants to eat home cooked meals at home - her husband refuses to eat the delicious meals.
His wife does not want to go out to eat fast food - her husband demands that she take him there.  (His health issues prohibit him now from driving).

What a slave they both are! She has made the CHOICE to eat the processed crap food also.  She has made the CHOICE to shuttle her husband to eat death food.  She has made the choice to be his shuttle to the medical jail - I mean hospital.  He has made the choice to remain a slave to the addictive food and she has made the choice to be the vehicle that gets him there.  For her it isn't worth the fight.

While teaching in Corpus Christi, Texas, I was able to eat dinner with a Dr. and his beautiful wife.  The meal was simple yet delicious.  On my large dinner plate was a healthy serving of quinoa and beans, a cabbage salad with nuts, and grapes and a delicious mixture of sauteed vegetables.  During our conversation the Dr. and I discussed our frustrations with people who continue to eat processed foods despite their health issues.  The Dr. gave some great advise that I wanted to share.  He said that people usually think about eating food that feels or tastes good to them.  When deciding what to eat, people think "what am I hungry for?"  Instead, people should ask "what food should I eat to fuel my body?"  At first, the food isn't going to taste good to the individual.  It takes time to heal the taste buds that have been damaged by all of the chemical additives.  The Dr. said that he tells them to simply look at the food as fuel.  Choose CLEAN FUEL for your body.  He assures his patients that over time real food will taste good but it will take time.  Another bit of advise he gives is to avoid foods with a bar code on it.

So, are you free or are you addicted to something?  A friend posted a quote on Facebook the other day that I loved.  He said "If you are going to get the thing you WANT, you have to be willing to do the thing you DON'T WANT to do".  (20secondfitness.com - great role model).

A friend of mine who overcame multiple sclerosis said that when she decided that she wanted to be well she had to "grab the bull by the nay nays" and she ran with all her might.  She use to be a fast food junkie who didn't know a thing about cooking.  She has turned herself into a vibrant healthy zumba instructor, beach body coach and fitness enthusiast!  She made the choice to be well and didn't stop until true health and vitality was achieved.  She does know how to cook now and she is no longer in a wheelchair.  Hooray!!!

Visualize what you want.  Keep your eye focused on the goal and never, ever give up!  You can be successful.

At the end of my conversation (with Fred), I mentioned that I had heard he was once an amazing ballroom dancer.  I know his wife is also an amazing dancer.  Buried deep beneath the years of toxins stored safely away in the fat cells, lies a beautiful couple who have so many wonderful years to live - so many years to dance! My prayer is they will choose to get out of jail (the hospital and medical trap) for good.  I pray their desire to dance will outweigh their desire to eat fast food.

REAL God Made Food, Whole Herbs, CPTG Essential oils bring restoration to body, mind and spirit.  The healing powers of the earth, the sun, pure air and water...so many beautiful tools God has given us to be well.

May the "Force" :) be with you or  your loved one! Where FAITH is, FEAR DIES.

Pharma Not in Business of Health, Healing, Cures, Wellness

The video listed above is from a former Pharmaceutical Drug Representative who worked in the industry for 15 years. If you have not read her book "Confessions of an Rx Drug Pusher", I highly recommend that you read it. The Pharmaceutical Companies MUST become accountable for what they are doing to people. The industry is NOT trying to heal people. They are all about symptom management and creating new illnesses to medicate.

The below article is about essential oils. Pharmaceutical drugs will NEVER be able to do what these amazing essential oils are capable of doing.

"It was thought for years that the interstitial tissues of the brain served as a barrier to keep damaging substances from reaching the neurons of the brain and the cerebrospinal fluid. Instead of a barrier, it would be more accurate to consider it as a sieve or filter through which only molecules of a certain size or smaller can pass.

Most of the molecules of the substances used in chemotherapy are too large to pass through the blood-brain filter, which is why doctors say that chemotherapy doesn't work on brain cancer. Some of the smaller molecules get through, but not the whole suite of drugs intended.

Doctors don't know for sure, but it seems that in order to cross the blood-brain barrier, only molecules less than 800-1000 atomic mass units (amu) in molecular weight can get through. Lipid solubility seems to be another factor which facilitates passing through the blood-brain barrier. Water soluble molecules don't usually penetrate into brain tissue, even when very small. The molecules of essential oils are all not only small, but lipid soluble as well.

In fact, when it comes to essential oils, small molecules (less than 500 amu) are what they are made of. That is why they are aromatic. The only way for something to be aromatic is for the molecules to be so small that they readily leap into the air so they can enter our noses and be detected as odor and smell. That is why oils for cooking or massage, such as corn, peanut, sesame seed, safflower, walnut, almond, canola, olive and other oils pressed from seeds are not aromatic. Sure, they have a smell, but you can't smell them across the room in minutes as one can when you opens a bottle of peppermint, hyssop, or cinnamon oil. Essential oils of every species cross the blood-brain barrier. This makes them uniquely able to address disease, not only from a physical level, but from a more basic and fundamental level-that of the emotions which are often the root cause of physical illness.

Because of the tiny molecular structure of the components of an essential oil, they are extremely concentrated. One drop contains approximately 40 million-trillion molecules. Numerically that is a 4 with 19 zeros after it: 40,000,000,000,000,000,000. We have 100 trillion cells in our bodies, and that's a lot. But one drop of essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 molecules. Considering that it only takes one molecule of the right kind to open a receptor site and communicate with the DNA to alter cellular function, you can see why even inhaling a small amount of oil vapor can have profound effects on the body, brain, and emotions. Sometimes too many oil molecules overload the receptor sites, and they freeze up without responding at all, when a smaller amount would have been just right. This is why we say that when using oils, "sometimes less is better." Sometimes more is better, too. Knowing the difference is the art of aromatherapy.

Essential oils are mixtures of dozens, even hundreds, of constituents, all of which are composed of carbon and hydrogen and sometimes oxygen. All essential oils are principally composed of a class of organic compounds built of "isoprene units." An isoprene unit is a set of five connected carbon atoms with eight hydrogens attached. Their molecular weight is only 68 amu, which is very small, indeed. Molecules built of isoprene units are all classified as "terpenes." Terpenes are what make essential oils unique in the world of natural substances.

Phenylpropanoids are compounds of carbon-ring molecules incorporating one isoprene unit. They are also called hemiterpenes. There are dozens of varieties of phenylpropanoids. They are found in Clove (90%), Cassia (80%), Basil (75%), Cinnamon (73%), Oregano (60%), Anise (50%), Peppermint (25%). While they can create conditions where unfriendly viruses and bacteria cannot live, the most important function performed byphenylpropanoids is that they clean the receptor sites on the cells. Without clean receptor sites, cells cannot communicate, andthe body malfunctions, resulting in sickness.

Monoterpenes are compounds of two isoprene units, which is ten carbon atoms and sixteen hydrogen atoms per molecule- molecular weight 136 amu. There are an estimated 2,000 varieties of monoterpenes.
Monoterpenes are found in most essential oils: Galbanum (80%), Angelica (73%), Hyssop ((70%), Rose of Sharon (54%), Peppermint (45%), Juniper (42%), Frankincense (40%), Spruce (38%), Pine (30%), Cypress (28%), and Myrtle (25%).While offering a variety of healing properties, the most important ability of the monoterpenes is that they can reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory. With improper coding in the DNA, cells malfunction and diseases result, including lethal ones such as cancer.

Sesquiterpenes are compounds of three isoprene units, which is fifteen carbons and twenty-four hydrogens per molecule- molecular weight 204 amu. There are more than 10,000 kinds of sesquiterpenes. Sesquiterpenes are the principal constituents of Cedarwood (98%), Vetiver (97%), Spikenard (93%), Sandalwood (Aloes) 90%, Black Pepper (74%), Patchouli (71%), Myrrh (62%), and Ginger (59%). They are also found in Galbanum, Onycha, and Frankincense (8%).

Sesquiterpene molecules deliver oxygen molecules to cells, like hemoglobin does in the blood. Sesquiterpenes can also erase or deprogram miswritten codes in the DNA. Sesquiterpenes are thought to be especially effective in fighting cancer because the root problem with a cancer cell is that it contains misinformation, and sesquiterpenes can erase that garbled information. At the same time the oxygen carried by sesquiterpene molecules creates an environment where cancer cells can't reproduce. Hence, sesquiterpenes deliver cancer cells a double punch-onethat disables their coded misbehavior and a second that stops their growth.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has said that if they could find an agent that would pass the blood-brain barrier, they would be able to find cures for ailments such as Lou Gehrig's disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Such agents already exist and have been available since Biblical times. The agents, of course, are essential oils-particularly those containing the brain oxygenating molecules of sesquiterpenes.

The big triple punch combination of "PMS" (Phenylpropanoids, Monoterpenes, and Sesquiterpenes) found in essential oils is very powerful in addressing many illnesses, injuries, and disease conditions.
That is because this combination offers the following:

First, you clean the receptor sites allowing the proper transfer of hormones, peptides, neurotransmitters, steroids, and other intracellular messengers. (The Phenylpropanoids do that.)

Second, you deprogram or erase the wrong information from cellular memory stored in the DNA. (The Sesquiterpenes take care of that.)

Third, you reprogram the cells with the correct information so they can function properly. (The Monoterpenes do this.)

These three classes of chemical components are why essential oils can sometimes affect a healing that is nearly instant and also permanent. What they simply do is to restore the body back to its natural state of balance and health. While a specific oil may have one or two of these three classes of compounds as its predominant chemistry, all the Biblical oils contain some of all of them. This is one secret to their amazing healing abilities.

So there you have it in a nutshell: The way the blood-brain barrier works and the biochemistry of one of the ways essential oils can help achieve a healing."

Make sure the essential oils you use are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG).

With much love,
